Colour analysis

Colour analysis

https://gracey1392.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/janet-jackson-vibe-april-2008-cover-774x1024.jpgFor my genre I have chosen R&B , I have chosen this because I think this would allow me to give me more individuality and would allow me to have more of my own personality as the colours are varied depending on what’s in the magazine therefore I am able to have full choice on what I want to do and how it will look like and don’t have to decide on a specific colour until finish date as hip hop magazine range from full colour to just black and white so have full choice u until the very end. I have gotten some inspirations from fonts used by typical R&B magazines to inspire me to create my own.

The colours used in this magazine always vary depending on the main image however they only use one or two main colour which make all the important information stand out, this makes it easier for the audience to point out the most exclusive text.

Billboard have mostly the same colour scheme of red blue and yellow shown in the masthead, but the colours can vary depending on the main image as this will consistently change so sometimes the colours contrast too much, and the read blue and yellow can’t be used, however in this one you can see some of the most important text is highlighted in yellow, the text therefore is not actually yellow as the colour would contrast too much so therefore is just highlighted.

NME uses matching colours to those of the image like the magazine Vibe, this is highly used in the R&B music magazine industry and all magazines as this allows the reader to find the most important first and quickly. Here the colour mainly used is pink, and although this isn’t shown on the image much it is shown a bit on her lips and on the bird but it does co-ordinate with the magazine quite well and is easy to see on the background

R&B mainly uses one or two colours on their front cover this is so it appeals to the young adult- adult audience, if there was too much colour it would look too childlike and may people would think it was child’s magazine. Therefore it only uses a maximum of 4 colours at any one time. The colours will always co-ordinate with the main image and not contrast too much. For my magazine I will be using pink black and blue and some white, I will be using these because I have already taken my image and I know these colours will co-ordinate with the image and not contrast too much, making my magazine stand out.

I have gotten some inspirations from fonts used by typical R&B magazines to inspire me to create my own.

The font here uses both sharp and rounded edges, this gives it a friendly but harsh feel like it has big news but is easy to read. As you notice with this particular R&B magazine the masthead is actually behind the main image which shows this one is quite popular however this is less common in hip hop magazines.

VIBE plakette 5 SF --- I may chose this font as it gives off the same affect and could be useful in my magazine, is I want not only factual but also a bit of sass. Most of all this simple.

This font is shown in front of the main image on the magazine which is common in R&B magazines. The font uses a very noticeable and clear font with rounded edges, and doesn’t look to harsh, it looks friendly and inviting.

Billboard  Berlin Sans FB ---- this one is not so up in your face as it has more edges and is bolder however this one would still appeal in my opinion because of the way hip hop is portrayed; strong, independent yet still got the nice said of good music. Most of all this simple.

Its sharp and o edge its stands out with the boldness of it, it’s a small masthead but makes up for it on how bold it is and how much such a small thing can actually stand out.

NME – Adventurer Black SF --- this one is not as sharp but still hold the same effect it stands out and is different. Most of all this simple, or there abouts.

Music Genre Research

This is my research into what I wanted my genre of music to be for my magazine. including this secondary data work I also include primary data which was asking my friends and family which music genre they like the best there results included 44% R&B 14% Rock 32% Pop 20% Hip Hop/ Rap, choosing the most popular one between my family and friends made making my magazine much easier as these magazines where around the house and taking my picture for my final piece much easier as they were also into R&B.
